Turkish Apricot Jam Swirl Yogurt
A simple yet elegant breakfast bowl layering thick Greek yogurt with warm spiced apricot jam, finished with crunchy granola and toasted pistachios. The jam is gently warmed with cardamom and a touch of orange zest, then swirled into creamy yogurt for a Turkish-inspired morning treat.
Steps
Before you start
- Have all ingredients at room temperature or chilled as specified
- Toast pistachios lightly if using raw ones for better flavor
- Use full-fat Greek yogurt for creamiest texture
Warm the jam
- Pour the apricot jam into a small saucepan and add the ground cardamom, orange zest, and water if the jam is very thick.
- Heat over medium heat for about 2–3 minutes, stirring gently with a wooden spoon until the jam is warm and flows easily.
- Do not boil.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly for 1 minute.

Ready when: Jam is warm and moves easily when stirred, never boiling
Tip: Keep heat medium or lower so cardamom flavor stays fresh and jam doesn't break down
Divide yogurt
- Spoon half of the chilled Greek yogurt (about ¾ cup / 180 g) into the bottom of each serving bowl.
Drizzle and swirl jam
- Spoon half of the warm jam (about ¼ cup / 75 g) over the yogurt in each bowl.
- Using a clean spoon or knife, gently swirl the jam into the yogurt in 3–4 broad strokes, creating a ripple effect.
- Do not overmix; the swirls should be visible and distinct.

Ready when: Jam creates visible swirls throughout yogurt without fully blending
Tip: Gentle swirling keeps layers distinct; aggressive mixing will blur the beautiful contrast
Top with granola and pistachios
- Divide the granola between the two bowls (about 6 tablespoons / 45 g per bowl) and sprinkle the chopped pistachios on top (about 2.5 tablespoons / 22 g per bowl).
- Drizzle with honey if desired for extra sweetness.

Tip: Add toppings just before eating so granola stays crunchy and doesn't soften in the yogurt
Good to know
Tips
- Toast raw pistachios in a dry skillet over medium heat for 2–3 minutes to deepen their flavor before chopping
- For a richer bowl, use labneh (thick strained yogurt) as your base—it's traditional in Turkish breakfast spreads
- The orange zest brightens the warm spice and apricot; don't skip it even if using store-bought jam
- If your granola is too sweet, balance it with a pinch of sea salt sprinkled over the top
Make ahead
The spiced apricot jam can be warmed up to 2 hours ahead and stored in an airtight container at room temperature; reheat gently before serving.
Storage & reheating
Assemble and serve immediately. Leftover spiced jam keeps in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
Substitutions
- apricot jam or apricot preserves → fig jam or cherry preserves. Both pair beautifully with cardamom and pistachios for a Turkish flavor profile
- ground cardamom → ground cinnamon or a pinch of ground cloves. Cinnamon gives warmth; cloves add deeper spice (use ⅛ tsp cloves as it's stronger)
- plain full-fat Greek yogurt → labneh (strained yogurt) or regular full-fat yogurt. Labneh is thicker and tangier; use an extra ¼ cup regular yogurt to reach desired consistency
- roasted salted pistachios, coarsely chopped → toasted sliced almonds or hazelnuts. Both add crunch and nuttiness; toast lightly to bring out their flavor
