Yogurt Granola Breakfast Jar
A simple, satisfying breakfast jar with creamy Greek yogurt, crunchy granola, fresh berries, and a honey drizzle. No cooking required—just layer, seal, and eat now or refrigerate for later. Perfectly portable, endlessly customizable, and great for meal prep.
Steps
Before you start
- Gather all ingredients and have a clean 16 oz (475 ml) mason jar or glass jar ready
- Rinse and pat dry the berries before assembly to prevent excess moisture
- Decide whether you'll eat immediately for crunchy granola, or assemble ahead and add granola just before eating
- Measure out ingredients if making multiple jars at once for meal prep throughout the week
Add yogurt base
- Spoon the plain Greek yogurt into the bottom of your 16 oz (475 ml) jar.
- Use about ¾ cup (170 g) to create a creamy, protein-rich foundation that fills roughly the bottom third of the jar.
- Keep it cold straight from the fridge.

Ready when: Yogurt fills the bottom third of the jar in an even layer
Layer fresh berries
- Scatter the rinsed and patted-dry mixed berries on top of the yogurt.
- Use about ½ cup (90 g).
- The berries sit between the yogurt and granola, adding tartness and texture that plays against the sweetness of the honey and richness of the yogurt.

Ready when: Berries form a distinct layer above the yogurt
Add granola layer
- Top the berries with about ⅓ cup (40 g) of granola.
- Add it right before eating if you want maximum crunch, or add it now if you plan to eat within 30 minutes.
- If making ahead for tomorrow, you can skip this step for now and add granola just before eating, or layer in reverse order to keep granola separate (see Tips).

Ready when: Granola forms a visible layer above the berries
Tip: Add granola as close to eating time as possible to keep it maximally crunchy
Drizzle honey
- Drizzle 1½ tablespoons (30 g) of honey over the granola.
- It will gradually seep down through the layers, binding everything together with natural sweetness and creating a cohesive breakfast.

Good to know
Tips
- For maximum granola crunch, add it just before eating. If assembling the night before, layer in reverse order: nuts on bottom, then honey, granola, berries, and yogurt on top. This keeps granola separate and crispy.
- Shake gently in the jar before eating to mix all the layers, or eat it layer by layer to experience each component distinctly. Both ways taste great.
- Customize endlessly: stir ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract or 1 teaspoon of protein powder into the yogurt, add a handful of chia seeds, drizzle with almond butter, or swap in your favorite granola flavor.
- This recipe scales easily: double it in a 32 oz jar for two servings, or make a batch of jars for the week ahead.
Make ahead
Yes. Assemble the jar up to 2 days in advance and refrigerate in a sealed jar. For the crunchiest granola, add it just before eating or within 30 minutes of assembly. If assembled overnight, the granola will soften and flavors will meld beautifully—still delicious the next morning. Layer yogurt on top if assembling the night before to keep berries and granola fresh.
Storage & reheating
Room temperature: Keep up to 30 minutes before yogurt warms and granola softens. Refrigerator: Up to 2 days in a sealed jar; best eaten within 1 day for optimal granola crunch. Freezer: Not recommended—yogurt becomes grainy upon thawing. Enjoy cold straight from the fridge, or let sit 5 to 10 minutes at room temperature if you prefer yogurt slightly less cold.
Substitutions
- Plain Greek yogurt → Plain regular yogurt, Skyr, or non-dairy yogurt (coconut, almond, or oat). Regular yogurt is thinner and less protein-rich; use slightly more. Skyr is thicker and creamier. Non-dairy options vary in texture—choose one that's not too runny.
- Granola → Muesli, cereal, or crushed nuts and seeds. Muesli absorbs moisture more slowly than granola. Cereal offers different flavors. Crushed nuts provide crunch without grains.
- Fresh mixed berries (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries) → Sliced fresh fruit (peaches, bananas, mango, kiwi), dried fruit, or fruit jam. Fresh berries have the shortest shelf life. Dried fruit lasts longer and adds chewiness. Jam adds moisture and concentrated flavor.
- Almonds, sliced or chopped → Walnuts, pecans, cashews, pumpkin seeds, or sunflower seeds. Any nut or seed works. Toast them first for deeper flavor. Use 2 to 3 tablespoons depending on the nut size.
