Steps
Before you start
- If using fresh orange juice, squeeze it just before blending so it stays cold and bright
- Cut banana into 1-inch chunks and freeze for at least 2 hours for a thicker, colder smoothie
- Have your blender ready and clean
Prep the banana
- Cut the frozen banana into 1-inch chunks.
- If your banana isn't frozen ahead of time, use 1 cup (150 g) of regular banana plus 4–5 ice cubes to achieve a thick, cold smoothie.

Ready when: Banana is cut into uniform pieces
Tip: Frozen banana makes the smoothie naturally thick and cold without watering it down with too much ice.
Combine in blender
- Add the orange juice, frozen banana chunks, cold water, honey, and yogurt (if using) to your blender.
- No need to add ice if your banana is frozen.

Ready when: All ingredients are in the blender pitcher
Tip: Layer softer ingredients (juice, yogurt) on top of frozen banana so it blends more evenly.
Blend until smooth

Good to know
Tips
- Freeze banana slices in a zip-top bag 1–2 days ahead so they're ready anytime you want a quick smoothie.
- For extra creaminess without yogurt, add ¼ avocado or 2 tablespoons of nut butter.
- If the smoothie is too thick, add a splash more juice or water; if too thin, add another frozen banana chunk.
- For a protein boost, stir in 1 scoop (about 25 g) of vanilla or unflavored protein powder after blending.
Storage & reheating
Best served fresh. If you have leftovers, store in an airtight bottle in the refrigerator for up to 4 hours. The smoothie may separate—stir or shake before drinking. Do not freeze; the texture becomes icy.
Substitutions
- fresh orange juice → 1½ cups fresh orange juice blended with the flesh of 1 peeled orange. Use whole orange for more pulp, fiber, and a thicker texture.
- banana → 1 cup fresh mango chunks, frozen. Swap banana for tropical flavor; mango pairs beautifully with orange.
- honey → 1 tablespoon maple syrup or agave nectar. Use if you prefer a different sweetener; adjust to taste.
- water → ½ cup coconut water or almond milk. Adds subtle flavor and creaminess while keeping the drink light.
