Steps
Before you start
- Freeze the banana slices for at least 3 hours (or overnight) so the smoothie is thick and frosty without watering down.
- Measure the orange blossom water carefully: it is very potent, and too much tastes soapy.
- Use 100% pomegranate juice with no added sugar so you can control the sweetness.
Chill the glasses
- Place two tall glasses in the freezer while you assemble the smoothie.
- This keeps the drink cold and thick for longer.

Ready when: Glasses feel cold to the touch.
Load the blender
- Pour the pomegranate juice and yogurt into the blender jar first.
- Add the orange blossom water and honey (if using), then top with the frozen banana slices and ice cubes.
- Liquids at the bottom help the blades catch the frozen fruit.

Tip: Don't add more than ½ teaspoon orange blossom water at first; you can always add a few drops more after tasting.
Blend until smooth
- Start on low speed for 10 seconds, then increase to high and blend for 45–60 seconds.
- Stop and scrape down the sides if any banana chunks stick, then blend 10 seconds more.

Ready when: Smoothie is uniformly pink, thick like a milkshake, with no visible banana chunks or ice flecks.
Tip: If the blades spin without pulling the mixture down, add 2 tablespoons (30 ml) more juice.
Taste and adjust
- Taste the smoothie.
- If it is too tart, blend in 1 more teaspoon of honey for 5 seconds.
- If it is too thick to pour, blend in 1–2 tablespoons (15–30 ml) cold water or juice.

- Sprinkle each with 1 tablespoon pomegranate arils and a pinch of chopped pistachios.
- Serve immediately with a straw or spoon.

Good to know
Tips
- Frozen banana is what makes this thick and creamy; if you only have fresh banana, use 1 cup (150 g) ice instead of ½ cup.
- Orange blossom water brands vary in strength. Start with ½ teaspoon and add a few drops at a time.
- Pour the liquids in first and the frozen items on top for the smoothest blend and less strain on the motor.
- For extra protein, blend in 2 tablespoons of Greek yogurt or a scoop of unflavored protein powder, plus a splash more juice.
Make ahead
Freeze the banana slices up to 3 months ahead. You can also pre-portion the banana, yogurt, and ice into freezer bags; add the juice and orange blossom water just before blending.
Storage & reheating
Best served immediately. Refrigerate in a sealed jar for up to 24 hours (shake or stir well before drinking; it will thin out). Freeze in ice cube trays or popsicle molds for up to 2 months; re-blend with a splash of juice to serve.
Substitutions
- plain whole-milk yogurt → Coconut yogurt or other plant-based yogurt. Makes the smoothie dairy-free; choose an unsweetened one for the best balance.
- orange blossom water → ½ teaspoon rose water. Gives a similar floral character; rose water is equally strong, so keep the amount small.
- honey → Maple syrup or 2 pitted Medjool dates. Maple syrup keeps it vegan; dates add a caramel note and may leave tiny flecks.
- unsalted pistachios → Slivered almonds. Same crunch with a milder flavor.
