Avocado Milk Smoothie
A silky, nutrient-dense smoothie made with ripe avocado, cold milk, and sweet honey. The avocado creates a naturally creamy texture without yogurt or ice cream, while vanilla adds warmth and depth. Perfect for a quick breakfast or afternoon energy boost, ready in under 5 minutes.
Steps
Before you start
- Choose a ripe avocado that yields slightly to pressure but isn't soft or brown inside
- Use cold milk straight from the refrigerator for the best texture
- Have your blender clean and ready to go
Prep the avocado
- Cut the avocado in half lengthwise around the pit.
- Twist the two halves apart, remove the pit with a spoon, and scoop the creamy flesh directly into your blender bowl.

Tip: The salt is optional but helps amplify the sweetness and vanilla flavor without making the smoothie taste salty.
Blend until smooth
- Cover the blender and blend on high speed for 45 seconds to 1 minute, until the mixture is completely smooth and creamy with no visible chunks of avocado.
- If needed, stop and use a spatula to push down any stubborn bits, then blend again for another 15 seconds.

Serve immediately

Good to know
Tips
- If your avocado is underripe (firm, not yielding to pressure), let it sit at room temperature for 1–2 days before using. Overripe avocados (soft, brown flesh) will taste bitter in the smoothie.
- For a thicker, more dessert-like smoothie, add ½ frozen banana or ¼ cup of ice cubes. For a thinner, more drinkable consistency, add another ¼ cup of milk.
- To prevent browning if you need to make this ahead, add a squeeze of fresh lemon or lime juice (about ¼ teaspoon) which also brightens the flavor.
- For extra protein and nutrition, stir in 1–2 tablespoons of nut butter, 1 tablespoon of chia or flax seeds, or ¼ cup of plain Greek yogurt before serving.
Storage & reheating
This smoothie is best served immediately. If you must make it ahead, store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 hours, but expect some darkening and separation. Stir well before serving. Not suitable for freezing, as the texture becomes grainy when thawed.
Substitutions
- whole milk, cold → 2% reduced-fat milk, almond milk, oat milk, or coconut milk. Whole milk creates the richest texture, but lighter options work well. Non-dairy milks may result in a slightly less creamy smoothie.
- honey → maple syrup, agave nectar, or 1 tablespoon of sugar. Any liquid sweetener works here. Use the same amount if switching to maple syrup or agave, or dissolve 1 tablespoon sugar in the cold milk first.
- vanilla extract → ½ teaspoon almond extract or omit entirely. Almond extract adds a different but complementary flavor. The smoothie is still delicious without vanilla, just slightly less aromatic.
