Açaí Bowl Milkshake

A creamy, nutrient-dense milkshake that captures the essence of the popular açaí bowl—smooth and drinkable, yet topped with granola and fresh fruit for texture and crunch. The base blends frozen açaí puree, banana, and coconut milk into a thick, satisfying shake, finished with a layer of granola, coconut flakes, and berries on top that you eat with a spoon or drink through a wide straw.

Steps

Before you start
  • Use frozen açaí puree packs (not the bowl mix, which contains added sweeteners and toppings)
  • Freeze banana slices ahead of time or use very ripe frozen bananas
  • Chill your blender pitcher in the freezer for 10 minutes for an extra-thick shake
  1. Prepare the frozen fruit

    • Remove the açaí puree packs from the freezer and let them sit at room temperature for 2 minutes to soften just slightly—this makes blending easier without warming the shake.
    • Cut the frozen banana into 1-inch (2.5 cm) chunks.

Ready when: Açaí packs are still mostly frozen but slightly soft at the edges

Tip: Do not fully thaw the açaí or the shake will be thin and icy. You want just enough give to scoop with a spoon.

  2. Blend the base

    • Pour the chilled coconut milk into a high-powered blender.
    • Add the açaí puree and frozen banana chunks.
    • If using honey, add it now.
    • Blend on high speed for 45–60 seconds, pausing once or twice to scrape down the sides with a spatula, until the mixture is completely smooth and thick.
    • The shake should look like soft-serve ice cream in consistency, not thin like a regular smoothie.

Ready when: Mixture is smooth, thick, and creamy with no chunks of fruit or ice remaining

Tip: If the shake is too thick to blend, add 1–2 tablespoons of coconut milk at a time. If too thin, add more frozen banana or a handful of ice.

  3. Divide and pour

    • Divide the blended shake evenly between two tall glasses or bowls (about 6 oz / 180 ml per glass).
    • Pour gently to avoid foaming.
    • The shake should mound slightly above the rim.

Ready when: Shake is poured and distributed equally between glasses

Tip: Use bowls or wide-mouth glasses so you can comfortably eat the toppings with a spoon alongside sipping.

  4. Top with toppings

    • Sprinkle granola evenly over the top of each shake (about ¼ cup / 30 g per shake).
    • Add coconut flakes if using (about 1.5 tablespoons / 12.5 g per shake), then scatter fresh berries over the granola and coconut.
    • Serve immediately with a spoon and a wide straw.

Ready when: Toppings are evenly distributed and press gently into the shake

Tip: Top the shake just before serving so the granola stays crispy. If you wait, it will absorb the shake and become soggy.

Good to know

Tips
  • Freeze your banana the night before—very ripe bananas (with brown spots) work best and add natural sweetness.
  • For extra creaminess, use full-fat coconut milk from a can (shake or stir well to combine the cream) rather than the light version.
  • If you don't have a high-powered blender, let the açaí thaw for 5 minutes instead of 2, and blend for up to 90 seconds, stirring once halfway through.
  • This shake is best enjoyed with a spoon and a wide straw so you can eat the granola and berries while sipping the shake.
Storage & reheating

Best consumed immediately. The shake will separate and soften as it sits. If you must make it ahead, store the blended base (without toppings) in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 24 hours; blend again for 30 seconds with a splash of coconut milk to refresh, then add fresh toppings before serving.

Substitutions
  • coconut milk → unsweetened almond milk or oat milk. The shake will be slightly thinner and less creamy, but still rich and fruity. Use about ¾ cup (180 ml) and reduce honey if added.
  • honey → maple syrup or agave nectar. Use the same amount (1 tablespoon / 15 ml). Agave gives a milder sweetness; maple adds earthiness.
  • fresh berries (blueberries, raspberries, or sliced strawberries) → dried cranberries, chia seeds, or hemp seeds. Dried fruit adds chewiness; seeds add crunch and nutrition. Mix with granola or scatter on top.
  • granola (preferably coconut or tropical blend) → crushed nuts (almonds, walnuts, or macadamia) mixed with 1 tablespoon of raw cacao nibs. Creates a crunchier, less sweet topping. Use about ¼ cup (30 g) total per shake.
